Ingredients

Scale

Steak

  • 1 pound flank, sirloin, or ribeye steak
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 12 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (for seasoning and dressing)

Salad Base

  • 4 cups mixed greens (romaine, spinach, and arugula)
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, quartered
  • 1 cup cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup red onions, finely sliced
  • 1 avocado, sliced

Toppings and Dressing

  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta or blue cheese
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice or balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 cup toasted walnuts or pumpkin seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak: Season your chosen cut of steak generously with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil. Preheat your grill to high heat, then cook the steak for about 4-6 minutes per side depending on thickness and preferred doneness. Once cooked, let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain to keep it tender.
  2. Prepare the Salad Base: While the steak rests, wash and dry your mixed greens thoroughly. Quarter cherry tomatoes, slice cucumbers thinly, and finely cut red onions. Layer these fresh ingredients in a large bowl or individual salad plates to create your vibrant base.
  3. Assemble the Salad: Place the sliced grilled steak on top of the greens and veggies. Add avocado slices and sprinkle cheese evenly over the salad. Add nuts or seeds if you’re using them. Drizzle olive oil and a squeeze of lemon juice or balsamic vinegar over everything.
  4. Toss and Serve: Gently toss the salad to evenly distribute flavors without bruising the delicate greens. Serve immediately to enjoy steak at its flavorful best alongside crisp, fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • Always let your steak rest after grilling to keep it juicy and tender.
  • Use a very sharp knife to slice the steak thinly and evenly.
  • Dry greens thoroughly to avoid soggy salad.
  • Customize your dressing with homemade vinaigrette using fresh lemon or balsamic vinegar.
  • Do not overcrowd the grill to achieve beautiful sear marks and better flavor.
