Strawberry Cream Cheese Danishes

Warm, flaky, and sweet homemade Strawberry Cream Cheese Danishes combine buttery puff pastry, creamy tangy cream cheese filling, and fresh strawberry sweetness for a delightful breakfast or brunch treat that’s both elegant and comforting.

Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry Base

  • Puff pastry sheets, thawed (quantity depending on desired number of danishes)

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Strawberry Filling

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, washed, hulled, and diced
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (adjust as needed)

Finishing Ingredients

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting or glaze)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cream Cheese Filling: In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy. Set aside for later use.
  2. Prepare the Strawberries: Wash and hull the fresh strawberries, then dice them into small pieces. Toss with granulated sugar to enhance their natural sweetness and let them macerate briefly.
  3. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Thaw the puff pastry sheets according to the package instructions. On a lightly floured surface, unfold the pastry and cut it into squares about 4 to 5 inches wide.
  4. Assemble the Danishes: Place a spoonful of cream cheese filling in the center of each pastry square. Add a spoonful of the sweetened strawberries on top of the cream cheese. Fold the corners of the pastry slightly inward for a neat shape or leave open-faced for a rustic look.
  5. Egg Wash and Bake: Brush the edges of each pastry square with the beaten egg to get a golden finish when baked. Place the danishes on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, or until they are puffed and golden brown.
  6. Optional Finishing Touch: Once slightly cooled, dust the danishes with powdered sugar or drizzle a simple glaze for extra sweetness and visual appeal.

Notes

  • Keep the puff pastry cold and handle it quickly to maintain maximum flakiness.
  • Don’t overfill the danishes to prevent leakage or sogginess while baking.
  • Brush egg wash evenly for a glossy, golden-brown finish.
  • Use ripe, fresh strawberries for the best natural sweetness and flavor.
  • Allow the danishes to cool slightly before adding glaze or powdered sugar to avoid melting.
