Prosciutto-Wrapped Mozzarella Bites

Prosciutto-Wrapped Mozzarella Bites

Prosciutto-Wrapped Mozzarella Bites combine creamy, melty fresh mozzarella with salty, savory prosciutto and fresh basil, creating a simple, elegant, and delicious finger food perfect for parties, appetizers, or snacks. These bites are quick to assemble, crisped lightly in olive oil, and optional balsamic glaze adds a gourmet touch.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • Fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini) – 12 small balls
  • Thinly sliced prosciutto – 12 slices
  • Fresh basil leaves – 12 leaves
  • Olive oil – 1 tablespoon, for cooking
  • Black pepper – pinch, freshly ground
  • Optional balsamic glaze – for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Drain the fresh mozzarella balls and pat them dry thoroughly to remove excess moisture. Lay prosciutto slices flat on a clean surface, and gently rinse and dry the basil leaves to keep them fresh.
  2. Assemble the Bites: Place one fresh basil leaf on each mozzarella ball. Carefully wrap a slice of prosciutto around the mozzarella and basil, tucking the ends underneath to secure the parcel, ensuring the prosciutto fully covers the cheese.
  3. Cook Until Crisp: Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella bites and cook for 1–2 minutes on each side until the prosciutto crisps and the cheese softens slightly. Avoid overheating to keep the bites intact without melting the cheese fully.
  4. Season and Serve: Remove the bites from the skillet and arrange on a serving plate. Lightly season with freshly ground black pepper. Optionally, drizzle balsamic glaze over the bites for a touch of sweet tanginess and serve immediately while warm and crispy.

Notes

  • Use quality, thin prosciutto slices for best texture and flavor balance.
  • Don’t overcook; the prosciutto should crisp but the cheese remain intact and slightly soft.
  • Dry the mozzarella well to prevent sogginess and ensure crisp prosciutto.
  • Fresh basil leaves provide superior aroma and freshness compared to dried herbs.
  • Serve immediately for optimal taste and texture; reheating gently can help maintain crispness if needed.
