Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Maple-Pecan Filling

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup chopped pecans, toasted

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Begin by activating the yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar until frothy, about 5 to 10 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture with all-purpose flour, eggs, melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix to form a soft dough, then knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
  2. Make the Maple-Pecan Filling: While the dough rises, prepare the filling by mixing melted butter, brown sugar, and pure maple syrup in a bowl until well combined. Stir in the chopped pecans, coating them evenly with the maple syrup mixture.
  3. Roll and Fill the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll the risen dough into a 12×16 inch rectangle. Spread the maple-pecan filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Starting from the longer side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
  4. Cut and Arrange Buns: Slice the rolled dough into 10 to 12 equal pieces. Place the buns cut side down in a greased baking dish, spacing them slightly apart. Cover and allow the buns to rise for an additional 30 minutes until puffy.
  5. Bake and Glaze: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Immediately after removing from the oven, brush the warm buns generously with warm pure maple syrup to achieve a glossy, sticky finish.

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs, butter, and milk to help the dough rise evenly.
  • Do not over-flour the dough to keep buns soft and airy.
  • Make sure your yeast is fresh for the best rise.
  • Allow sufficient rising/rest time for fluffy buns.
  • Brush with maple syrup while buns are still warm to help glaze soak in.
