Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp

  • 1 lb medium or large peeled and deveined shrimp

Hot Honey Sauce

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Cooking Fat

  • 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil

Garnish (Optional)

  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp: Rinse your shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. If they aren’t already peeled and deveined, take a moment to prep them for optimal texture and even cooking.
  2. Make the hot honey sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, red pepper flakes, minced garlic, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Adjust the spice level to your liking.
  3. Cook the shrimp: Heat butter or olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for about 2 minutes on each side until they turn pink and are just cooked through. Avoid overcooking to keep them tender.
  4. Glaze the shrimp: Reduce the heat to low, pour the hot honey sauce over the shrimp, and toss gently to coat. Let it simmer for another minute so the shrimp absorb the sweet and spicy flavors and the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Finish and garnish: Remove from the heat and sprinkle fresh chopped parsley or cilantro on top for color and freshness. Serve immediately for the best experience.

Notes

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan: Cook shrimp in batches if necessary to ensure they sear nicely instead of steaming.
  • Use fresh or properly thawed shrimp for the best texture and flavor.
  • Adjust heat gradually: Start with less chili and increase to your preferred spice level to avoid overpowering the sweetness.
  • Let the sauce rest briefly to thicken before tossing with shrimp to keep them coated rather than swimming.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the shrimp’s juicy, vibrant flavors at their best.
