Homemade Lasagna

Homemade Lasagna

This Homemade Lasagna recipe delivers a comforting and flavorful Italian classic, featuring rich cheesy layers, hearty meat sauce, and tender noodles. Easy to prepare and customizable, it’s perfect for any occasion and will quickly become a family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Sauce

  • 1 lb ground beef and/or Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 23 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz tomato sauce or marinara
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Noodles

  • 12 lasagna noodles (no-boil or traditional)

Cheese Layer

  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Additional Ingredients

  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: Brown the ground beef and/or Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until fully cooked. Add chopped onions and garlic, and cook until fragrant. Stir in tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer gently while preparing other ingredients.
  2. Cook the Noodles: If using traditional lasagna noodles, boil in salted water until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water to prevent sticking. Skip this step if using no-boil noodles.
  3. Mix the Ricotta Layer: In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese with one egg, chopped parsley, and a pinch of salt to create a creamy filling that binds the layers.
  4. Assemble the Layers: Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Layer noodles over the sauce, followed by dollops of ricotta mixture, generous sprinkles of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers until ingredients are used, finishing with a cheese layer on top.
  5. Bake to Perfection: Cover the dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 40 minutes. Remove the foil during the last 10 minutes to allow the cheese to turn golden and bubbly. Let rest before serving to set.

Notes

  • Use fresh herbs such as basil or parsley to brighten flavors.
  • Don’t over-sauce the noodles to avoid sogginess.
  • Let the lasagna rest for at least 15 minutes after baking for easier slicing.
  • No-boil noodles save time and simplify preparation.
  • Using a mix of cheeses provides better texture and flavor.
