Instructions

  1. Prepare the Green Beans: Trim and wash fresh green beans, then blanch them in boiling water for 3-4 minutes until just tender but still bright and firm. Drain and set aside to keep their crisp texture.
  2. Sauté Mushrooms and Make the Sauce: In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat and sauté finely chopped mushrooms until browned and fragrant. Add minced garlic and cook for one more minute. Stir in flour to coat the mushrooms and form a roux, then slowly whisk in milk and cream until the sauce thickens into a smooth, creamy base.
  3. Combine and Season: Mix the blanched green beans into the creamy mushroom sauce, then add onion powder, salt, and black pepper to taste. Stir gently to combine everything evenly without breaking up the beans.
  4. Bake with Topping: Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, sprinkle the top generously with crispy fried onions, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
