Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water (around 110°F / 43°C)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Garlic Butter Mixture

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, finely minced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water and let it activate until frothy, about 5-10 minutes. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic, then cover it and set aside to rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  2. Make the Garlic Butter: While the dough is rising, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the finely minced fresh garlic and cook gently until fragrant, about 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to burn the garlic. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Shape the Flatbread: Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into equal portions (4-6 pieces depending on size preference). Roll each portion into a thin oval or circle shape on a floured surface.
  4. Cook and Brush: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Cook each flatbread for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown spots appear. While the flatbread is still warm, generously brush it with the prepared garlic butter mixture to soak in all the flavor.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately for best taste and texture. Alternatively, keep the flatbreads warm wrapped in a clean kitchen towel until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Use freshly minced garlic for the best flavor rather than garlic powder or pre-minced garlic.
  • Do not overknead the dough to avoid toughness; knead just until smooth and elastic.
  • Allow the dough to rise fully to achieve fluffy and tender flatbread.
  • Cook on medium heat to prevent burning while ensuring the bread cooks through.
  • Brush the garlic butter while the flatbread is warm for optimal absorption and moistness.
