Ingredients

Scale

Basic Ingredients

  • 3 large fresh eggs
  • 1/4 cup sharp cheddar or mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon milk or cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Crack the eggs into a bowl, add a pinch of salt and pepper, and whisk thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and slightly frothy. Grate your favorite cheese so it’s ready to melt evenly once cooking starts.
  2. Heat the Pan: Place a non-stick skillet over medium heat and melt the butter, allowing it to coat the entire surface. The butter should foam but not brown, creating a silky base for your eggs.
  3. Pour and Cook the Eggs: Pour the egg mixture into the pan, tilting it gently to spread the eggs evenly. Let it cook undisturbed for 20-30 seconds, then begin gently pushing the edges towards the center with a spatula, letting the uncooked eggs flow to the sides.
  4. Add the Cheese: Once the eggs are mostly set but still slightly runny on top, sprinkle the grated cheese over one half of the omelet evenly for the perfect melt.
  5. Fold and Finish Cooking: Carefully fold the omelet in half over the cheese and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute, just until the cheese melts completely and the eggs are fully set but remain soft and tender.

Notes

  • Use Fresh Eggs: Fresher eggs produce better texture and richer flavor in your omelet.
  • Low and Slow: Cooking on medium or medium-low heat prevents browning and keeps the omelet tender.
  • Don’t Overbeat: Whisk just until combined to avoid tough, rubbery eggs.
  • Non-Stick Pan is Key: Prevents sticking and makes folding the omelet much easier.
  • Butter over Oil: Butter adds flavor and helps achieve a beautiful golden crust.
